The Faena Hotel, where Rojo Tango is located, is a five star hotel in the upscale Puerto Madero district. Designed by the famous Alan Faena, the brick hotel is a beautiful setting for this dramatic, cabaret style milonga. The Rojo Tango dinner and show promises “love, passion, madness and glamour” expressed through the beauty and history of tango. The venue is all red—red curtains, red carpeting, and red chairs—so the show plays to this ambiance of romance and melodrama. Leave your cynicism and your camera at the door; photos aren’t allowed, giving this enclave of moody jazz and sultry tango an exclusive feel. Keep in mind that Rojo Tango is not your traditional tango show—characterized by a modern feel, the small orchestra, the singers, and the dancers are not afraid to put their own spin on the genre. The food is excellent, and Puerto Madero is full of wonderful restaurants if you want other options.

Yes, it is expensive, but I loved both the music and choreography. It inspired me to attend other shows while vacationing in Buenos Aires, but this show was alive, “hot”, glamorous, sensual and pulsating with movement. It pushes the limits.

The Rojo Tango show at the Faena + Universe Hotel is a beautiful, well conceived mixture of tango and singing, with an excellent small orchestra. The dancers are amazing (although some of the women look anorexic), and the singers quite good. The setting is that of a small nightclub, so there are really no bad seats. The only drawback is the price of $150 US, which is incredibly expensive for Buenos Aires.

I’ve seen the Rojo Tango show at Faena twice and I can’t wait until my next visit to Buenos Aires so that I can see it again. It is just as one of the previous reviwers stated– “alive, “hot”, glamorous, sensual and pulsating with movement. It pushes the limits.” You not only get a great show, you have an unforgettably beautiful, sensual experience, too. The dinner with the endless flow of champagne is as sensual and delicious as the music and dance. This luxurious, memorable treat is expensive but the experience is priceless– the $250 US for the show, dinner, champagne and a private chauffeur driven towncar that transports you from home, to the show and back home again is worth so much more than money. My friend, who is a tour guide in Buenos Aires, says that it’s the best and most authentic tango show she’s ever seen.
