Few tango shows take place in a National Monument, but Tango Palace does. It is located in Frer’s Pavilion, a part of the larger convention center La Rural. Built over one hundred years ago, Frer’s Pavilion is a symbol of culture in the city, and when you enter, you will see that it is more than just a dining room and a stage. There is a life sized reconstruction of the streets of Buenos Aires during the early days of tango, a museum of photographs, and everything is peopled with characters from that lost era—a Disneyland of tango. The large dining room is situated directly below the blood red curtains of the stage, and every table has a good view. The menu is traditional Argentine food divided into categories—Porteño, Sur, Classic, International—and you can choose a category for each course. The VIP menu has even more categories to choose from and is cheaper than many VIP options; both menus come with wine. The show itself is fairly standard, if perhaps a bit more technically advanced with its lights and projections. The dancers and orchestra tell a variety of stories of tango and the city of Buenos Aires and you can count on them delivering a professional and elegant performance.
